The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The purpose of the Conference is to promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind.  The bishops themselves constitute the membership of the Conference and are served by a staff of approximately 315 lay people, priests, deacons, and religious, located at the Conference headquarters in Washington, DC, with branch offices in Miami, FL and Rome.

The Conference is organized as a corporation in the District of Columbia. Its purposes under civil law are: "To unify, coordinate, encourage, promote and carry on Catholic activities in the United States; to organize and conduct religious, charitable and social welfare work at home and abroad; to aid in education; to care for immigrants; and generally to enter into and promote by education, publication and direction the objects of its being."

Education and Policy Intern  (Temporary)

The MRS Education and Policy Offices advance the departments advocacy and education efforts related to immigrants, refugees, child migrants, and survivors and victims of human trafficking. The intern will engage in diverse activities, including research, document drafting, graphic and social media advocacy work, attending meetings and note-taking, and providing various forms of administrative support.

Contributes to the Bishops strategic plan for the Conference. Demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties in accordance with its Catholic identity.

This is an unpaid internship, but credit for school is a possibility. You must be able to work on Wednesdays and Fridays as part of your internship, due to job related responsibilities that fall on those days. Additional days and times are negotiable.

Continuing Responsibilities: (List from highest to lowest priority.)

1. Assist in updating and developing resources pertinent to the MRS education and policy offices and the Justice for Immigrants Campaign website.

2. Support in the writing of external communications to partner organizations and clients, in both formal and social media style formats.

3. Knowledge of social media trends and an ability to develop social media material/graphics based outreach.

4. Attend meetings, both on and off-site, related to the interests of the policy office, taking notes and reporting back to office staff.

5. Support administrative activities of the office, including the coordination of meetings, meeting minutes, and other tasks necessary for the ongoing needs of the policy office.

Other duties as assigned

Other Specialized Training: (i.e. word processing, personal computer, knowledge of Catholic Church, etc.)

A general understanding of the Catholic Church and its ethical tradition; word processing; familiarity with research databases; familiarity with social media.

A general understanding of migration and human rights issues related to migration.

Proficiency in Spanish language preferred
