Summary:This position will be responsible for direction and oversight of HR to include all Human Resources Operations/staff, Team Member Relations, Recruitment/Discharge, FMLA administration, Compensation, Risk and Benefit Management, Team Member Uniform Control, Training & Development, HR Departmental Payroll-Time Keeping and Labor Law Compliance. Additional responsibilities are to develop retention strategies, policies and procedures, maintain records and files and maintain open lines of communication amongst executive management, departmental managers and team members.

Duties and Responsibilities Specific areas of responsibility included, but not limited to:

  • Establishes strategic direction for all HR function areas to accomplish objectives by creating and executing measurable plans.
  • Manages and coordinates departmental strategic plans and holds members of the HR Team accountable to achievement of outlined goals.
  • Maintains the personnel records of team members sufficient to meet tribal, federal, and company record keeping.
  • Conducts and manages all team member employee relations investigations, and provide management with recommendations to the course of corrective actions in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Manages and ensures that Tribal Hiring practices are in compliance.
  • Works directly with the executive staff to evaluate, monitor, and improve overall team member engagement.
  • Monitors and assesses property wide training needs to ensure compliance and growth opportunities of team members.
  • Maintains awareness of all changes in federal and tribal laws that impact the enterprise as it relates to human resources and team members.
  • Maintains communication with the General Manager and Director of Finance on all legal, regulatory, and licensing matters while requesting assistance as needed
  • Serves as a consultant and business partner to operational managers and senior management regarding disciplines or terminations. Ensures both discipline and terminations are applied fairly and consistently throughout the company with established HR related policies and procedures.
  • Must consistently demonstrate a high level of customer service to customers and employees, and represent the casino in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Oversees team member uniform operation to include, inventory control, purchasing, issuing and replacement of team member uniforms.
  • Manages and directs the Benefits Coordinator regarding the day-to-day employee benefit programs, workers compensation, and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversees and responds to the resolution of team member concerns regarding FMLA, FSLA programs; advises, approves, or denies exception requests, as appropriate.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of benefits, pension, and government (both Federal & Tribal) legislation, and court decisions related to areas of responsibility.
  • Provides advice and counsel to all levels of management and staff as regards human resources policies and procedures.
  • Provides oversight and monitors workloads and appropriate levels of customer service. Ensures that the day-to-day operational duties of the HR functional area are completed in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Providing financial management for assigned function areas including forecasting, budgeting, and goal-setting, approving expenses & reporting.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned within the scope of work.
  • Develops and administers risk-management and loss-prevention programs. Researches and reports on the most cost effective plans to minimize asset liability. Oversees and/or acts as the liaison to insurance companies and individuals, and investigating any incidences that may result in asset loss.
  • Responsible for management of workers compensation, claims including overseeing administration of Occupational Injury/Illness program and coordinating wages and/or settlements with third party administrator.
  • Providing financial management for assigned function areas including forecasting, budgeting, and goal-setting, approving expenses & reporting.
  • Mandatory Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in business or HR management or related field plus six (6) years work experience as a HR Director in the casino hotel industry.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years in tribal casino hotel operations. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in department budget preparation and financial reports.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of work experience directly related to Federal and/or Tribal laws relating to, but not limited to, workers compensation, FMLA, COBRA, and unemployment compensation.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources is required. Must be able to demonstrate policy writing skills.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports, speak and write effectively and work under a minimum of direction. Must be flexible with shift and days off.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a successful participant on an executive management team that provides leadership and direction.
  • Demonstrated track record of confidentiality, reliability, responsiveness, and creativity.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain, maintain, and retain a valid Class III gaming license.
  • Must attend State, Federal, Tribal, Casino and Department mandatory trainings and pass any applicable testing.
