Position Summary

This entry-level position has the responsibility for placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop floor support and monitoring inventory control activities.

Essential Functions

• Place purchase orders for all non-product shop supplies, materials and/or outside services.

• Serve as backup for team members and become cross-trained in various areas of the Supply Chain business unit, including oiling and packing parts, pallet jack operation and other shop floor duties.

• Manage and evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability and other criteria.

• Monitor and maintain inventory control activities.

• Interview vendors and visit supplier facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.

• Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best value.

• Verify purchases by comparing them to a master list and recommend alternatives for expensive or irrelevant products.

• Interact with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors.

• Ensure suppliers comply with customer specifications.

• Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.

• Some travel may be expected.

• Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers and managers.

Experience and Education

• College degree in business, supply chain management or a related field preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
