Position Summary
This entry-level position has the responsibility for placing purchase orders, managing suppliers, providing shop floor support and monitoring inventory control activities.
Essential Functions
Place purchase orders for all non-product shop supplies, materials and/or outside services.
Serve as backup for team members and become cross-trained in various areas of the Supply Chain business unit, including oiling and packing parts, pallet jack operation and other shop floor duties.
Manage and evaluate suppliers by considering price, quality, availability and other criteria.
Monitor and maintain inventory control activities.
Interview vendors and visit supplier facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.
Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best value.
Verify purchases by comparing them to a master list and recommend alternatives for expensive or irrelevant products.
Interact with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors.
Ensure suppliers comply with customer specifications.
Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.
Some travel may be expected.
Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers and managers.
