Description:

The San Antonio River Authority seeks to hire a Dam Technician to maintain the vegetative cover on earthen dams and river channels for slope stability and prevention of erosion in spillways due to flood waters using their equipment operation and maintenance expertise.

Watershed and Parks team members work extremely hard, but they play hard. We feel that team building on a quarterly basis is a way to bring the group together for fun, comradery and a time to share ideas.

Our dam technicians succeed in this position by being able to operate and maintain construction and agricultural heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, tract loaders, bobcats, excavators, dump trucks, maintainers, agricultural tractors, shredders, hay baling implements, augers, plows, power tools, gasoline mowers, vehicles and other equipment commonly used for vegetative and structural maintenance.

This position requires the ability to operate a low-center of gravity tractor to maintain vegetation on the earthen dam slopes with up to a 30- degree angle slope.

They are also responsible for maintaining discharge channels behind flood retardant structures by spraying herbicide, removing brush or trees, and removing accumulated silt in channel.

Dam technicians will assemble and repair structural forms such as trailers, hitches, equipment, buildings/sheds, flood gates, and other equipment as needed through welding.

Dam technicians have the ability to weld proficiently with arc or mig;

The dam technicians service and/or repair motor vehicles, small engines, tractors, construction equipment, farm equipment and implements.

This team applies herbicides for control of noxious weeds following proper procedure under general supervision

Team members continuously give back to the community by leading volunteer groups.

Team members enjoy working outdoors and supporting the river and the habitat.

COMPENSATION: Salary is $15.00 hr. (DOE) plus outstanding fringe benefits which includes excellent health/vision/dental insurance packages, 401a/457b retirement program, 12 vacations days per year, 11 paid holidays per year, etc.
