JOB DESCRIPTION

The Home Center Cashier is responsible for receiving and disbursing money from customers in our retail store. You will use electronic scanners, cash registers, or related equipment. Process credit or debit card transactions and validate checks. Greet customers when they enter the store. Help with receiving and stocking of shelves when needed. Work hours are Monday through Friday and a half day on Saturday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Receive payment by cash, check and credit cards and issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers
Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change
Greet customers entering the Home Center and maintain clean and orderly checkout areas
Identify prices of goods and tabulate transactions using calculator, cash register, or optical price scanner
Calculate total payments received during a time period and reconcile this with total sales
Compute and record total of transactions
Process merchandise returns and exchanges
Request information or assistance using paging systems
Stock shelves and mark prices on items when needed
Compile and maintain non-monetary reports and records
Monitor cashier station to ensure that they have adequate cash available and that they are staffed appropriately
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED equivalent
6-12 months of related experience
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly
Ability to communicate effectively with others and to take care of customers needs
Must be able to pass pre-employment testing (physical, drug, alcohol)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and must be able to lift 15 pounds. The employee must be able to operate office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax, copier, cash register, scanner and ten key.
