Description: 
  • Responsible for implementing agency fund development strategies, including grant proposal writing, in support of agency programs.
  • Perform fund development activities including prospect research, donor management, and the preparation of solicitation letters, letters of inquiry, applications, and grant proposals.
  • Remain abreast of programmatic funding opportunities and assist in identifying those which are appropriate for the agency to pursue in the interest of achieving the agency mission.  Assist the Director of Development and Communications in the design of agency programs that are in line with the agency mission, best meet the needs of the low-income community, and are responsive to such opportunities. 
  • Prepare, in consultation with development team staff, responses to funding opportunities including NOFAs, RFPs, and general announcements of funding availability.
  • Conduct research necessary to adequately assess community demographics, community services, and service gaps.  Utilize such information in the compilation of needs assessments, proposal needs statements, and program plans.  Assist in the preparation of statistical and narrative programmatic reports for internal agency use and external funding sources.
  • Develop relationships with members of the community including public officials, representatives of other human service agencies, funding agencies, and consumers towards developing cooperative relationships and preparing funding proposals.
  • Work in conjunction with program and management staff to implement an agency development and marketing plan that communicates the agency mission and vision.  Insure that fund seeking remains consistent and reflective of organizational goals and objectives.
Education: 
4 Year Degree
 
Preferred Skills: 
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible fund development experience with a particular emphasis on grant writing, proposal development, program design, and non-profit administration, or a combination of education and experience which is similarly equivalent.
  • Experience in non-profit philanthropy is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Wayne County demographics, the needs of low-income persons in Wayne County, and services available to meet those needs.
  • Ability to assist in the design of social services targeted towards persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
  • Knowledge of methods to seek and secure funding in support of program operations and the ability to effectively solicit funds through the preparation of funding requests to entities including foundations, state and local governmental entities, and private donors.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Exceptional writing, grammar and organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify, contact and work with area social service providers, funding agencies, and consumers in both the public and private sectors in the interest of aiding low-income persons.
  • Experience working with boards of directors, volunteers and high net-worth individuals.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning skills with the ability to adapt style to a variety of situations.
  • Ability to collect and evaluate data regarding service needs, present services, and service gaps, and through such as evaluation, develop needs statements to both direct and support agency services.
  • Ability to empathize and communicate with those persons facing economic, social, health, age and educational barriers.
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Self-starter with ability to function under tight deadlines and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction.
