Primary Prevention AOD Counselor
Location: Pleasanton, CA

We are seeking a Primary Prevention AOD Counselor to work out of our Pleasanton clinic site. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package to qualified staff members.

Qualifications:  

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

  2. Certification in Alcohol and Other Drugs or in the process of obtaining certification.

  3. Six months or more experience in the provision of drug and alcohol counseling.

  4. Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.

  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred.

  6. Minimum of one-year sobriety, with recovery plan and support system in place.

  7. Proven ability to work with people in a client centered format.

  8. Computer knowledge desirable to include Microsoft Excel and Word.

Essential Duties:   

  1. Counsel and teach life skills to high school youth who are at risk for substance abuse issues.

  2. Facilitate group counseling and individual sessions on a daily basis.

  3. Complete mandatory in house training to utilize evidence based curriculum in the schools.

  4. Provide referral services for substance use as appropriate with coordinator assistance.

  5. Develop and maintain strong relationships with school staff and school resource officers.

  6. Maintain complete, accurate, and legible client records and other related documents according to established protocol and legal requirements.

  7. Provide UA testing for clients in treatment and do proper noting of results.

  8. Maintain the expected level of knowledge in “SUD” services and treatment modalities.

  9. Participate in program meetings and activities.

  10. Attend Individual and group supervision as directed.

  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:  

Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment. While performing the responsibilities of this position, the individual is required to have ambulatory skills sufficient to visit various parts of the organization. Requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30lbs. Requires sitting and standing for extensive periods of time, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other equipment for extended periods of time. Travel to other Axis health centers and other local travel will be required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
