Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (40+ Hours/Week)

SUMMARY:

The Accountant provides accounting expertise to the Financial Services Department, serving as point-person to address customer requests for research and reporting, in collaboration with the Financial Services team.The person in this role must possess strong GAAP accounting skills, sharp analytical skills and clear communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to internal and external customer needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform daily cash and gift postings from donor database to accounting database (via an automated interface)
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations between donor database and general ledger
  • Perform monthly and quarterly general ledger reconciliations for a variety of asset and liability accounts
  • Perform manual entry and posting of non-cash gift transactions
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries
  • Support payroll process and assist with required filings
  • Serve as the primary contact for internal Foundation team members and campus partners to triage and provide timely and accurate responses to requests for research, analysis and ad-hoc report preparation
  • Participate in preparation for annual reporting surveys as requested by University partners
  • Participate in preparation for the annual external financial statement audit and tax return reporting

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performvarious accounting tasks as assigned
  • Contribute to the training and education of partners
  • Participate in ongoing training, education and staff meetings
  • Participate in and collaborate on Foundation projects

COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree (Accounting, Finance and/or Economics preferred)
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional accounting experience
  • CPA license required
  • Strong core accounting skills
  • Demonstrated capability in the preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and the interpretation of financial data
  • Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to adapt to new processes and systems
  • Experience with accounting software and demographic databases preferred
  • Experience working with SQL (specifically the application of SQL to accounting and financial analysis) preferred
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse constituency
  • Ability to interpret and present data to varied audiences
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job is conducted in an office workenvironment, sitting most of the time
  • Approximately 90% of this position's duties require use of a computer
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally
  • Minimal travel may be required

Compensation Range: $75,000/Year
