SUMMARY:

The Data Analyst designs and maintains the code that extracts the Foundation's data from our information systems so that it can be made available to the Foundation's internal and external customers in a timely manner. This work is often described as "reporting" or "report design" or "business intelligence" and makes use of industry standard tools such as SQL, Microsoft SSRS, and Microsoft Excel. The Data Analyst might also design and maintain the code that ensures the integrity of the Foundation's data platforms as information flows into Foundation systems from external sources and between the various components (aka "ETL" or "interface" design). This role works closely with business stakeholders to ensure reports and insights are delivered on time. The Data Analyst collects requirements, resolves technical issues, designs reports to answer key business questions, and identifies new sources of data and methods to improve data collection, analysis and reporting. Strong communication skills are essential as this role may serve as translator between technical and non-technical business stakeholders, and between Foundation and external partners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather business requirements and design reports that provide customers with the data and insights they need, in a timely manner
  • Assist Data Architect with design and implementation of data analytics and reporting platform enhancements
  • Write or revise program documentation, operational documentation or user guides in accordance with Foundation standards
  • Work closely with University departments and customers as a liaison for the Foundation
  • Contribute as a team member to project evaluations and improvement plans
  • Write structured application/interface code for data manipulation and analysis
  • Execute systems tests to ensure business continuity and successful code releases
  • Unit test new or modified applications and participate in code reviews
  • Research new and emerging technology to offer solutions to technology issues
  • Train new users on Foundation systems and reporting solutions
  • Implement Foundation data security policies and procedures
  • Engage actively and continuously in relevant continuing education

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document ongoing due diligence efforts and analysis
  • Present written and oral ideas supported by research
  • Personal education as it pertains to essential functions of the job

COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Typically requires Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience with database application programming using Oracle or Microsoft SQL server preferred
  • Experience in working with large data sets, especially programmatic manipulation and transformation of these data sets
  • A meticulous commitmentto the quality and integrity of the data presentedto the business
  • Strong communication skills, ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Some experience in reporting and data visualization tools preferred
  • Some experience with data manipulation (i.e. ETL/ELT) using Python preferred
  • Must be organized to effectively manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Maintain confidentiality as required and appropriate
  • Customer service mindset

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job is conducted in an office workenvironment, sitting most of the time
  • Approximately 90% of this position's duties require use of a computer
  • Must be able to exert up to 20 lbs. of force occassionally
  • Some travel may be required

Rate of Pay: Salary of $65,000 based upon 40 hours/week
