JOB TITLE:               Manager of Trolley Operations  

DEPARTMENT:        Trolley Operations

REPORTS TO:           Director of Trolley Operations and Maintenance                                 

JOB FUNCTION:      Responsible for supervising the daily operation of the Trolley Operations Department.  Ensures that trolley service is efficient and timely by monitoring delivery of service. Accountable for maintaining and regulating scheduled trolley service through observation and resolution of operational problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:

  1. Provides direction for the daily operations of Trolley Operations Department; manage and organize necessary activities, programs and objectives to meet and evaluate department goals.
  2. Assists with establishing and implementing procedures and work methods for the department and employees and continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
  3. Evaluates departmental personnel through job performance evaluations. Works with employees to correct deficiencies and administer disciplinary action when warranted.
  4. Responsible for ensuring annual certification of trolley operators, new employees.
  5. Provide leadership and supervision to subordinates.
  6. Analyze daily and monthly reports and implements corrective actions as appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist passengers with schedule, route, and transfer information, complaints, etc.
  2. Review work plans for employees and meet with staff to identify and resolve problems and assign work when necessary.
  3. Prepare monthly reports and maintain records.
  4. Assume additional responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education:      

]High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred. Overall experience may be considered in lieu of advanced education.

Other:

Minimum 8 years progressively responsible experience in transportation operations including a minimum of 3 years management responsibility in related area. Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations relating to fleet management. Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of fleet management. Must possess effective oral and written skills and be experienced in labor/union matters. Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills, including familiarity with relevant software. Must be proficient with personal computer and relative software. Must possess valid driver's license. Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time.  Ability to understand, interpret and implement bus operator rules and regulations required. Must understand and interpret collective bargaining agreement and work collaboratively in a union environment.

Environment:  

As extensive driving is required in the course of a normal workday, the ability to sit for long periods of time is needed.  Requires ability to withstand exposure to weather conditions, dust, engine fumes, toxic chemicals and extreme noise levels.  Must be able to climb on a ladder or other equipment up to heights such as on top of a bus or other vehicle; lift or push 50 lbs.; overhead lifting. Requires ability to perform hand-over-hand methods of steering vehicles and be able to grip a steering wheel.  Requires ability to hear telephone and directions given; visually perform essential functions for satisfactory job performance.  Ability to view visual display terminal for long periods of time. Requires flexibility of fingers for data entry.
