JOB TITLE: Residential Care Technician  (Med Tech)MUST BE MED TECH CERTIFIED

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Hourly - Full Time/ Part Time All Shifts

General Description:

Administers medications to residents of the Residential Care Home while performing basic care procedures. Recognizes the elderly we serve as unique persons, requiring individual alternatives to maintain full lives in their later years. Provides medical, spiritual, and emotional care; encompassing quality, dignity, compassion and confidentiality for each individual.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for giving medications to residents within one (1) hours of assigned time.

  2. Observes residents for expected side effects of medication and has knowledge of potential hazards of medications and applies applicable precautions.

  3. Accurately administers prn medications.

  4. Assesses resident’s physical status prior to giving medication.
  5. Accurately documents MAR and doctor’s orders.

  6. Communicates with resident, families and staff in a sensitive, professional and therapeutic manner.

  7. Observes and communicates changes in the patient condition to the RCH Nurse Coordinator.

  8. Takes resident’s vital signs and records on the appropriate form.

  9. Documents care and observation on appropriate forms.

  10. Assists with admission, transfer and discharge of resident.

  11. Provide for the safety and security needs of assigned residents.

  12. Maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.

  13. Attends meetings as required.

  14. Participates in education programs and inservice meetings.

  15. Understands and follows “Universal Precautions” as it pertains to potential exposure to all body fluids. Utilizes infection control techniques.

  16. Understands chemicals(s) used in their department under the “Right to Know” standard.

  17. Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision, including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be a potential threat, danger to a patient. Practices good safety awareness.

  18. Knowledgeable of Residents Rights and facility Abuse Policies and Procedures.

  19. Performs any other duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by Supervisor.



Entry Level Qualifications:


  1. Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training

  2. Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate; CPR certification preferred.

  3. PAC Training essential.

  4. Current CT Certification of Unlicensed Staff to Administer Medications.

  5. Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, commons fractions, and decimals.
