JOB TITLE: Residential Care Technician (Med Tech)
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Hourly - Full Time/ Part Time First Shift
General Description:
Administers medications to residents of the Residential Care Home while performing basic care procedures. Recognizes the elderly we serve as unique persons, requiring individual alternatives to maintain full lives in their later years. Provides medical, spiritual, and emotional care; encompassing quality, dignity, compassion and confidentiality for each individual.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for giving medications to residents within one (1) hours of assigned time.
Observes residents for expected side effects of medication and has knowledge of potential hazards of medications and applies applicable precautions.
Accurately administers prn medications.
Accurately documents MAR and doctors orders.
Communicates with resident, families and staff in a sensitive, professional and therapeutic manner.
Observes and communicates changes in the patient condition to the RCH Nurse Coordinator.
Takes residents vital signs and records on the appropriate form.
Documents care and observation on appropriate forms.
Assists with admission, transfer and discharge of resident.
Provide for the safety and security needs of assigned residents.
Maintains established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Attends meetings as required.
Participates in education programs and inservice meetings.
Understands and follows Universal Precautions as it pertains to potential exposure to all body fluids. Utilizes infection control techniques.
Understands chemicals(s) used in their department under the Right to Know standard.
Reports all unsafe conditions to appropriate supervision, including change in patient status, broken or malfunctioning equipment or anything that could be a potential threat, danger to a patient. Practices good safety awareness.
Knowledgeable of Residents Rights and facility Abuse Policies and Procedures.
Performs any other duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by Supervisor.
Entry Level Qualifications:
Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training
Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate; CPR certification preferred.
PAC Training essential.
Current CT Certification of Unlicensed Staff to Administer Medications.
Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, commons fractions, and decimals.
Physical Requirements:
Good physical and mental health.
Extremely heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs.)
Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking
Lifts, positions, pushes, transfers residents.
Manual dexterity and mobility
Intermittent exertion when performing treatments
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Ability to adjust vision to bring objects to focus
Equipment to be used: Eye protection mask sterile medical gloves Gait belt Back support belt
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before being considered for employment.
