General Description:

Organizes, plans, directs, and supervises recreational activities to meet the needs and interests of the residents of Elim Park, especially in the Health Center area.

Essential Job Functions:

1.Plans recreation programs based on needs and interests of long-term and short-term residents; schedules monthly program of events and activities.

2.Assists in transporting residents to and from recreation areas for activities.

3.Provides in-room and bedside activities where indicated.

4. Provides activities including but not limited to the following:

  1. Provides instruction, encouragement and hands-on assistance as appropriate for all activities.
  2. Provides appropriate activities for holidays, weekends, and evenings.
  3. Provides spiritual and religious activities in conjunction with the chaplain and other clergy.
  4. Works with rehab department as requested to reinforce rehab goals.
  5. Acts as facilitator for Resident Council and Family Council; keeps minutes and supplies copies to Administrator.
  6. Attend weekly RCP meetings.
  7. Documents individual recreation plans and resident responses, through MDS, RCP, recreation assessments, progress notes and discharge summaries.
  8. Provides all aspects of care for the Health Services animals: Facility dog, chickens, ducks, and fish.This includes, but not limited to, walking, feeding, coop cleaning, pond cleaning, ordering of food, care and coop supplies, and arranging and transporting to vet care appointments.
  9. Maintains storage areas.
  10. Orders, purchases and maintains recreation supplies and equipment.
  11. Instructs and supervises volunteers assigned to the recreation department, in conjunction with the Director of Volunteer Services.
  12. Prepares, posts, and distributes monthly calendars and weekly activity schedules, amends as changes become necessary.
  13. Maintains library of books, periodicals, and videos for resident use; purchases materials in accordance with Elim Park standards and mission statement.
  14. Performs any other job related duties and responsibilities that may become necessary or as directed by Supervisor.

Entry Level Qualifications:

  1. Training and orientation in accordance with state and federal regulations. Valid TRD Certification
  2. Able to make clear and decisive judgements.
  3. Able to be flexible and work effectively with staff, volunteers, and residents with widely varying needs and abilities.
  4. Willingness to work evenings as required, at least one Saturday a month, and holidays as assigned.
  5. Knowledge of or ability to learn computer skills sufficient to enter required records into the computer.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to walk or otherwise move freely about the facility, including into resident rooms and outdoors.
  2. Must possess eyesight and hearing sufficient to perform duties, or wear corrective devices.
  3. Able to lift up to 30 lbs. regularly.
  4. Able to push / pull up to 50 lbs. of force.
  5. Manual dexterity and mobility
  6. Intermittent exertion when performing animal care, cleaning and gardening
  7. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and walking.

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before being considered for employment.
