The Director of Nursing (DNS)is responsible for the management, supervision, growth and development of the staff and overall operations in the Healthcare Center to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.

The DNS plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the Nursing Services Department, its programs and activities within approved budget and quality standards in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

Subject to callback during emergency condition, e.g.: severe weather, evacuations, post disaster.

Work Area and Working Conditions:

Entire Health Center. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions. Subject to callback during emergency condition, e.g.: sever weather, evacuations, post disaster. On call as needed.

Professional Qualifications:

Must possess Bachelors Degree in Nursing from accredited college or university, with a minimum of 2 years experience as Director of Nursing.

Previous Long-Term Care experience required.

Current State of Connecticut license for RN in good standing.

Minimum two years leadership/management experience.

Advanced clinical knowledge and experience in providing direct care to geriatric population.

Strong ability in effective problem solving, communication, and critical thinking.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to lead and motivate others.

Must be able to read, write, and speak in English in a legible and understandable manner.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodations):

Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly.

Frequent walking, bending, standing, grasping, bending, and / or handling.

Manual dexterity.

Keen vision to perform computer and diagnostic readings from various medical supplies and equipment.

May be exposed to unpleasant conditions and is at risk for exposure from blood and body fluids.
