The Director of Nursing (DNS)is responsible for the management, supervision, growth and development of the staff and overall operations in the Healthcare Center to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times in accordance with state, federal, and local regulations.

The DNS plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the Nursing Services Department, its programs and activities within approved budget and quality standards in compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

• Ensures that all written nursing policies, procedures are adhered to, including nursing standards of practice.
• Oversees development and implementation of Quality Assurance Performance Improvement programs.
• Participates in surveys and monitors inspections by government agencies.Leads Plan of Correction Team to correct deficiencies and ensure ongoing compliance.
• Fosters and maintains inter-departmental communication and teamwork to ensure that issues are addressed and corrected on a timely basis.
• Prepares annual budget and manages operations daily in a cost effective manner.
• Prepares reports and recommendations concerning departments operations.
• Meets with Medical Director routinely.
• Co-ordinates Medical Staff, Nursing Leadership, and Licensed Staff meetings.
• Collaborates with Quality and Compliance Nurse Manager to track and monitor risk management areas such as medication errors and accident incident / reportable events investigations.
• Audits clinical documentation and other reports to ensure they are maintained in accordance with medical records standards.
• Ensures completion of physicians rounds and record keeping.
• Recruit and hire a sufficient number of qualified nursing staff to deliver efficient resident care in accordance with established staffing plan.
• Oversees the performance management process of the nursing staff, including providing direction, guidance, counseling, and ensures completion of performance reviews.
• Maintains professional competence as well as learning new, creative trends through participation in continuing education programs, seminars, and training programs.
• Assure Compliance and Resident Rights policies and work to resolve resident grievances.
• Assisting in development and implementation of safety standards and programs to meet all regulatory requirements as well as corporate policies and procedures.
• Monitors compliance by department managers, supervisors and staff of safety rules, procedures for reporting accidents/incidents, reportable events, and follow up and reporting of hazardous conditions and equipment.
• Establish and monitor compliance with electronic medical record documentation system.
• Participates and attends meetings with various committees and trade organizations.
• Works collaboratively with Assisted Living Agency (ALSA) to coordinate continuation of care with independent living residents.
• The employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the Chief Nursing Office and Administrator of Health Services.

Subject to callback during emergency condition, e.g.: severe weather, evacuations, post disaster.

Work Area and Working Conditions:

Entire Health Center. Subject to frequent interruptions. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions. Subject to callback during emergency condition, e.g.: sever weather, evacuations, post disaster. On call as needed.

Professional Qualifications:

Must possess Bachelors Degree in Nursing from accredited college or university, with a minimum of 2 years experience as Director of Nursing.

Previous Long-Term Care experience required.

Current State of Connecticut license for RN in good standing.

Minimum two years leadership/management experience.

Advanced clinical knowledge and experience in providing direct care to geriatric population.

Strong ability in effective problem solving, communication, and critical thinking.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to lead and motivate others.

Must be able to read, write, and speak in English in a legible and understandable manner.

Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodations):

Must be able to push, pull, or move a minimum of 50 lbs. regularly.

Frequent walking, bending, standing, grasping, bending, and / or handling.

Manual dexterity.

Keen vision to perform computer and diagnostic readings from various medical supplies and equipment.

May be exposed to unpleasant conditions and is at risk for exposure from blood and body fluids.
