POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Provides the Conference and the bishops with policy analysis and recommendations on immigration policy issues. Represents the Conference in coalition work and at national and international meetings on these subjects. Prepares and, as required, delivers congressional testimony, reports, advocacy papers, backgrounders, and action alerts. Contributes to the Bishops strategic plan for the Conference. Demonstrates willingness and ability to understand, respect and contribute to the USCCB mission and to fulfill job duties in accordance with its Catholic identity.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:Masters Degree, J.D. Strongly preferred but not required if there is extensive experience.

Major Field/Specialty:Immigration Law or related field

Other Specialized Training: (i.e. word processing, personal computer, knowledge of Catholic Church, etc.)

Develops advocacy materials (i.e. Action Alerts, op-eds, letters, testimony, and report Conducts legal analysis and develops policy reports and brief analyzes data, including legislation, to choose policy options and to provide advice to USCCB and bishops committees.

Interfaces with MRS offices to a) impact immigration issues, and b) understand policy implications of policy and legislative proposals on MRS programs. Initiates approach to and develop a relationship with Executive Branch officials on immigration matters. Collects data in the field and maintains contacts with national and international migration authorities to keep abreast of migration and immigration issues. Represents the Conference in coalition meetings, and consults with other agencies and partners to assess the environment. Represents MRS with immigration coalition groups.

Develops strategy with coalition partners using MRS policy objectives as a guide to further promote USCCB policies. Initiates approaches to key national and international foreign policy authorities.

PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE:

Practice in immigration law or experience in the immigration field strongly preferred.

Number of Years Required :(3-5) years of relevant experience in a related field
