Director of Individual Giving  (Full Time)

General Purpose:.

As Goodwill NYNJ strategically increases our private fundraising revenue, we are seeking a highly motivated, passionate, experienced and aspiring candidate who is eager to grow their career in the nonprofit Development field. The Director of Individual Giving will lead Goodwills burgeoning major giving program and all other individual giving strategies, including annual appeal and online engagement. The position will require a results-driven individual who will be confident in a donor-facing role, working directly with our CEO, Board, and other Executives in making asks, and leading collaboration across teams. The Director of Individual Giving will work closely with the Director of Development to craft and lead a comprehensive individual giving strategy which will steward donors at every point of the donor pipeline, focusing on donor retention and major donor cultivation. This position requires a candidate with a background in individual and major giving, with at least 5 years of experience in fundraising, at least 2 of which as a Major Gifts Officer or similar.

Essential Functions:

Key Responsibilities:

oDrive all Individual Giving strategies:

Work closely with Director of Development to create and align an individual giving strategy that encompasses donors at every level and appropriately engages Board and Executives for major giving

Track outcomes in all streams and determine necessary resources for meeting goals

oMajor Giving Program:

Implement a comprehensive moves management strategy for a portfolio of up to 50 major donors, with the goal of raising $100,000 in major gift asks in FY19

Drive major donor communications and ongoing cultivation, conducting at least 5 major donor touches each month, 1-2 of which are direct solicitations

Collaborate directly with CEO and Board members to conduct major gift asks, with prospect research support from Development staff

Work with leadership and Program staff to craft meaningful engagements for donors, including site visits, tours, program interactions, seminars, etc.

Work with CEO and Director of Development to create and implement an ongoing Board Development strategy which stewards our Board as major donors while continually equipping them for peer-to-peer fundraising

oFundraising Events:

Collaborate with entire Development department in implementing the agencys first major fundraising benefit event in 2019

Work with event consultants, Director of Development, and Director of Corporate Relations to craft post-event engagement strategy for event donors which stewards individuals up the pipeline throughout the year

Work with Director of Development and Board members to create and implement a year-round strategy for smaller cultivation events that engage major donors at varying levels

oJunior Board:

Provide stewardship support for Director of Development in engaging Junior Board members in philanthropy, as one of many sources for our major donor pipeline

oAnnual Appeal (mail in Nov):

Work with Program staff and Marketing department to generate moving story content, including appeal letter, online giving page, social media, video, etc.

Determine best strategies for donor acquisition, taking into account Goodwills unique position as a social enterprise with many goods donors

Lead appeal list segmentation and post-appeal analysis

Drive continual stewardship of high-level annual donors up the major donor pipeline via increased personalization and outreach

oOnlineFundraising andEngagement:

Assess current online strategies and work with Development Team to grow online engagement and fundraising

Maintain online and mobile donor communications (quarterly e-newsletter, text-to-give community, email house-file engagement campaigns, etc.)

Gather impact stories and content from Program staff and Marketing team on a regular basis

oContinually seek cost-effective professional development opportunities driven by agency need and strategic priorities

oParticipate in continual assessment of Development functions and researching of new and innovative strategies for increased fundraising or process improvement

oAssist with other development functions as needed

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:.

BA in Public Affairs, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Media Relations, or related

Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising, at least 2 of which in a major giving role

Knowledge of: The Raisers Edge 7 (preferred) or other CRM/donor database system; Email/Online engagement tools; Online research tools; Microsoft Office

Experience in crafting, facilitating, and making major donor asks, with a proven track record of successfully closed and stewarded gifts

Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

Demonstrable organizational, professional, problem solving, and customer service skills, and ability to facilitate collaboration across multiple teams

Ability to think strategically and deliver outcomes with minimal oversight

Enthusiasm for the mission of Goodwill, and sensitivity to working with individuals of multiple abilities
