Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law Enforcement or related field or combination of education and experience (may substitute 2 years’ experience for one year of college education); Minimum 5 years of related experience in law enforcement, retail loss prevention or investigations, interviewing or auditing

 

Scope of Supervision: Supervises Loss Prevention Specialist, POS Systems Specialist and LP/POS Technician

Job Summary:To implement procedures and systems to assist in developing, managing and implementing proactive, integrated and dynamic risk management, loss prevention programs.  Conducts audits and investigations that provide asset protection to reduce incidents of theft and other loss prevention policy violations.  Serves as the primary contact for the Point of Sales (POS) and responsible for oversight of the POS system including touchscreen units, back-end, reporting, connectivity and integration with other systems as it relates to retail store operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Observe operations processes to identify problems, initiate investigations, research and establish facts for proof and validation of evidence; ensure thorough documentation of all investigations; Review sales/POS reports to determine if violations of company policies are occurring in regards to cash handling; Develops and maintains Loss Prevention Policy and Procedure Manual; Resolve internal/external loss cases by consulting with Human Resources to develop and appropriate course of action; Coordinates installation and operation of surveillance camera systems or other security devices; Investigates disturbances such as alarm calls, unlawful intrusion, fires, and property damage; acts as liaison with police and fire departments and division VPs; Investigates allegations or reports of suspicious employee activities and/or violations of company policies and procedures pertaining to loss of company property; Follow up on audit results, review, research and report irregularities, and recommend corrective action; Maintain routine surveillance and review surveillance video recordings to ensure protection of company assets and property; Conduct surveillance at company property such as retail locations and attend donation centers and records activities of people suspected of taking or damaging company property; Maintain on-going loss prevention awareness programs through training and communication; Tracks loss prevention issues to identify trends and areas of risk and makes recommendations for improvements; Represents the organization in a court of law as related to loss prevention issues; Responds to inquiries and issues from store management and/or associates regarding POS user-error, opening/closing, reports, connectivity, etc. and trouble shoot to resolve the problems as quickly and efficiently as possible; Communicates and partners with IT department on connectivity problems to prevent or promptly resolve system outages; Provide training to all store employees, including management, on all operational procedures followed within the retail location;  Identifies areas within stores where processes and procedures are not followed and works with store personnel to ensure retail Loss Prevention and POS procedures are uniform; Develops, maintains and distributes procedural manuals ensuring retail stores are following property procedures and have up to date information; Responsible for placing of equipment orders for new store opening for POS, Burglary alarm and Surveillance cameras; Develops and maintains tracking records of reported issues, problems, actions taken to resolve etc.; Identifies trends and works to establish long term solutions as well as identifying areas of needed follow up training; Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Gives full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting in inappropriate times; Able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as professional journals, operating procedure manuals and government regulations; Able to write reports and business correspondence; Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and regulatory agencies using tact, courtesy and cooperativeness; Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Able to compute rate, ratio, and percent; Able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables, exercising judgement, ingenuity and initiative; Able to exercise discretion while regularly managing confidential information; Demonstrated attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy; Able to handle stressful situations with emotional control and conduct mediations in a diplomatic manner; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Working knowledge of Empower, SharePoint and Counterpoint; Able to navigate the Internet to find information including the ability to open and configure standard browsers, use searches and send and retrieve email.

 

Physical Requirements/Work Environment: Lifting up to 20 mounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds.  May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, push or pull.  Regularly required to talk and hear.  Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons. Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.  The noise level is usually moderate.


Travel Requirements: Must have valid and unrestricted driver’s license with access to own transportation (responsible for localized travel up to 85% of working time); Travel is defined as travel to all areas within Goodwill's territory (Cecil, Harford, Baltimore, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties, Baltimore City and the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland).  In some cases, travel may be unplanned.
