Teacher Aide (Full Time and Part Time)
Location: Orange County, NY
1:1 Classroom Teacher Aide
Monday-Friday 8:30a.m. - 2:30p.m.
Orange AHRC is seeking 1:1 Classroom Teacher Aides to work for its center-based special education classrooms located in New Windsor and Middletown. These Classroom Aides will act as a student’s 1:1 aide in accordance with the student’s IEP. Position will be assessed quarterly based on the student’s needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains student in line of site at all times.
- Provides assigned student with non-instructional supports as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Accompanies student throughout the day.
- Encourages classroom interaction.
- Acts as companion for assigned student.
- Provides assistance with student as indicated by their IEP’s and in accordance with instructions from the supervising teacher.
- Assists student with personal hygiene with methods prescribed by the IEP and the supervising teacher.
- Assists in lunch preparation for 1:1 student. Ensures that the prescribed individual therapeutic feeding program is implemented per the IEP and with direction from the
- Speech Therapist and Teacher if applicable.
- Performs record keeping/documentation functions as assigned by the Teacher.
- Participates in lunch clean-up. Washes utensils and other equipment after use or teaches students to carry out these activities.
- Manages student’s behaviors using acceptable behavior management techniques as outlined in the IEP.
- Records behavioral data as per the IEP with oversight from the Teacher.
- Complies with incident reporting procedures.
- Attends weekly team meetings and special in-service trainings as directed by the teacher or other designated school staff member.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or G.E.D required
- Team player with the ability to develop strong relationships with employees across all locations
- Experience working with children with disabilities preferred
- Certification as a Teacher Assistant preferred
*Annual physical mandated. Employee is responsible for updating physical within required time limits. Annual flu shots are required in accordance with Orange County Department of Health. PPD vaccinations are required.
