PURPOSE

This position will investigate and recommend energy efficiency and other green-power programs and activities for Matanuska Electric Association that serve our members and the long-term health of our cooperative. This position will report to the Director of External Affairs and coordinate efforts with members of the engineering, member services, regulatory affairs, accounting and operations departments. This position will also be affiliated with UAFs Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) and will coordinate with ACEP staff based in Anchorage for research support and guidance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

1.Conduct a literature review of programs in other utilities with a focus on cooperatives, including community solar programs.

2.Based on MEA-specific variables like resource availability, cost recovery, member needs, system constraints, regulatory requirements, etc., recommend programs for MEA to advance in the next three to five years.

3.Draft implementation plan for suggested programs.

4.As time permits, assist in the education of members as well as internal stakeholders on the options and tradeoffs of various green-energy options.

5.Promote a safety culture in which safety is a value. This culture is based on joint and individual engagement, ownership, and accountability regarding job safety and responsibility to perform work safely and adhere to safe work practices.

6.Perform the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates are required to have:

- A high school diploma or equivalent.

- A valid Alaska drivers license (or ability to obtain as required under State of Alaska regulations) and a driving record, which is acceptable and insurable by the Association and the Associations insurance carrier at standard group rates.

Preference will be given to those candidates who:

- Possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

- Possess an undergraduate degree in engineering, physical science, economics, public policy or other related field.

- Possess a familiarity with utility renewable energy integration models.

NOTE: The Association will consider, in its sole discretion, relevant work experience in lieu of required education qualifications or other required certifications or qualifications.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be required to:

- Communicate through speech and hear conversations with others by telephone and in person.

- Draft documents and spreadsheets using Microsoft office and research information via computer and through technical materials and manuals.

-Visual acuity to discern writing on paper to include reading language to allow filling of documents into the appropriate location, communication with others electronically, review of documents via paper and computer format, and ability to identify and scan documents into an electronic filing system for future retrieval.

- Frequently operate a vehicle.

- Travel to other Association offices, organizations and locations to attend meetings and company events.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

This position primarily works in an office setting; however, this position will require travel to other Association offices, organizations, and locations to attend meetings and company events.

This position requires some outside work during community and company events.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS

This position is classified as a nonexempt, nonrepresented position, and is eligible for overtime compensation based on both Federal and State of Alaska laws. All Association employees are expected to work widely varying amounts of either (1) unscheduled overtime such as during power restoration activities; or, (2) scheduled overtime required to accomplish special projects.
