Job Developer  (Full Time)
Department: Housing Operations

The Job Developer is responsible for creating job opportunities for participants of HABD's YouthBuild Program by researching, identifying, and soliciting commitments from possible sources of employment. The Job Developer works closely with the Program Manager and designated staff to ensure members are adequately prepared for entry-level job opportunities in various in-demand industries, including HABD, and to achieve placement and retention performance measures. As the Job Developer, you will assist participants in determining their career goals, preparing for post-secondary workforce pathways, identifying and following up on career opportunities, and working closely with the entire staff to build the young adults' leadership and employability skills. You should have a desire to assist youth with extreme barriers to success in obtaining life and career preparation skills necessary to become more independent, self-sufficient, and engaged in their future success.

All activities must support the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District's ("HABD" or "Authority") mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned as needed.

Refers participants to additional job skills development classes and provides further job search assistance or training.

Identify benefits of registered apprenticeship programs, continuing education through 2- and 4-year college, and direct employment.

Work closely with our local workforce investment board staff to engage local employers with open job orders within the targeted industries for our program.

Inform employers about the program, certifications, and skills of the participants and how the program can assist them in meeting their staffing needs.

Have weekly targeted goals for the number of employers they visit and the number of unsubsidized employment opportunities and internships they are able to secure.

Follow-up with employers after a participant is placed in employment or internship to ensure the participant meetsmeets expectations and identify additional skills participants may need to meet employer demands.

Follow up with YouthBuild Coach, define reporting efforts and collect program data.

Job Competencies

Strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program to reorient their lives and nurture their leadership skills.

Knowledge of human service, health, court, and criminal justice systems' programs, regulations, and procedures.

Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills; ability to relate to a wide range of issues, people, and institutions.

Non-judgmental attitude. Willingness to teach young people about service systems and decision-making processes. Ability to work as part of a team.

Education and/or Experience

Four years of counseling or crisis intervention experience with young adults.

Bachelor's degree in counseling, psychology, or related field, or equivalent working experience with young people.

Some positions may require possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to be insurable under HABD's automobile insurance plan at the standard rate.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks.
