Sr. Manager, Environmental Health & Safety  (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the effective management of all company environmental and safety programs. Develop, implement, improve, enforce, monitor, and promote world class safety programs, ensuring regulatory and company policy compliance for all Piper functions.  Leadership of programs to promote employee safety and eliminate unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.  Manage and coordinate all activities of environmental and safety personnel and contractors. 

Responsible for the oversight of hazardous materials used in company processes in accordance with Local, State, and Federal environmental policies, rules and regulations.  Direct company liaison with EPA, FDEP, OSHA, State, and Local regulatory authorities.  Coordinate and disseminate required reports and maintain associated records and documents. Hazardous Material Emergency Response Team coordinator/trainer.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Develop methods, procedures and programs to minimize workplace hazards.

·         Manage, coordinate and implement all Occupational Safety and Environmental activities and programs.

·         Company representative during Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures and corrective actions that may follow a finding.

·         Company representative during all regulatory environmental inspections and in any procedures and corrective actions that may follow a finding.

·         Coordinate accident investigations, accident prevention programs, preparation of reports and regulatory record keeping.

·         Manage the development, delivery, and recordkeeping of employee safety training programs.

·         Ensure follow through and documentation of accident reviews for all reportable injuries to ensure that the employee and Company’s interests are protected.

·         Investigate, prepare, and forward accident reports on injuries and appropriate near miss events to Leadership.

·         Develop partnerships with other professional and regulatory organizations in the safety and environmental fields.

·         Create and maintain appropriate metrics for monitoring of all safety and environmental programs.

·         Routinely report company safety and environmental performance to company Leadership.

·         Maintain current knowledge of the Federal, State, and Local environmental rules and regulations related to company operations.

·         Author policies, program outlines, training and rules to maintain safe and environmentally responsible work areas throughout the facility and Company property.

·         Manage procurement, storage, and availability of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all hazardous materials used within the facility.

·         Responsible for approving all new chemicals through the Engineering PIAF process.

·         Responsible for reviewing and approving all new equipment through the CEA process.

·         Manage and coordinate all industrial hygiene sampling.

·         Monitor and control the facility Environmental Safety and Compliance Program for EPA, FDEP, and Department of Transportation (DOT), in accordance with 29 CFR, 40 CFR, and 49 CFR.

·         Member of Company Emergency Response Team and Leader of RCRA Contingency Team.

·         Responsible for maintaining and distributing the Emergency Action Plan.

·         Manage spill prevention and response activities.

·         Manage all sampling and reporting requirements, as lead program manager, for Company’s NPL Site project.

·         Manage the coordination of environmental reports and maintain required records.

·         Ensure compliance with State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) - SARA Title III data collection, coordinate, and submit annual reporting package for community awareness of hazardous materials stored on site. Coordinate activities and train components of the facility Hazardous Material Emergency Response Team for actions during potential accidental spills and discharges of hazardous materials. Maintain associated records and files.

·         Manage and coordinate the collection, processing, packaging and shipment of Hazardous Waste, including necessary shipment manifests, records retention and Biennial Reports of Hazardous Waste activities to FDEP and other agencies, as required.

·         Coordinate, review and evaluate all outside environmental services, consultants and contractors involved in assessment, remediation, or environmental projects for the company and manage the contracting for external Environmental and Safety support vendors.

·         Manage and coordinate activities of the EHS Specialists, Technicians, and Engineers.

·         Provide guidance and assistance to supervisors responsible in correction of discrepancies and prevention of future environmental hazards and Safety issues.

·         Company strategic leader for all Environmental and Safety issues, including leadership of Safety Mentor Committee and responsible for creating and maintaining Piper’s Environmental and Safety strategic plan and associated activities, goals and objectives.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and coordinate activities of EHS Specialists, Technicians, and Engineers. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, risk management, safety management, environmental engineering, or a related field.  An advanced degree is preferred.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Professional Engineering (PE) licensure is highly desired.

Minimum of ten years of experience managing safety/environmental programs, accident prevention, loss control and risk management programs, including at least five years of management experience performing advanced professional work in the development and implementation of a comprehensive environmental and safety program in a manufacturing environment. 

Proficient knowledge of computer management tools such as the Internet, and Windows based software programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.  Excellent interpersonal, consulting and leadership skills are essential.  

Considerable management and leadership skills are required to successfully perform the planning, directing, reporting and administrative responsibilities of this position.
