Engineer, Certification  (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support and oversee aircraft certification programs to insure timely certification of aircraft. Provide certification support for the activities associated with aircraft certification and Continued Operational Safety (COS). As critical member of the Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) office, serve as liaison between the Company, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Foreign Civil Aviation Authorities (FCAA) and ODA Unit Members to ensure continued operation under ODA and compliance with applicable regulations and policy for airworthiness and type certification.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Support and oversee certification programs from inception to Type Certification issuance including, but not limited to the preparation and presentation of preliminary familiarization with FAA personnel, project notifications, project specific certification plans (including conformity plans), preparing applications for new or amended Type Certificates, developing compliance checklists, coordinating ODA Unit Members (UM) activity, convening and/or attending project meetings, assist in obtaining TIAs, prepare issue papers for special conditions, exemptions and equivalent levels of safety, and preparation of Type Certificate Data Sheets.

Obtain FAA Type Certification and FCCA validations by acquiring government approval of company type design data.

Assist or prepare engineering data for FAA/FCAA certification such as specifications, test plans, substantiation reports, drawing lists, validation plans, etc.

Research and identify FAA/FCAA certification, operational and export requirements.

Assist Service Action Manager to address Continued Operational Safety (COS) issues.

Prepare and conduct company training and audits to ensure continued compliance with FAA and ODA requirements.

Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, design engineers, drafters, customer service, certification and production staff to ensure design requirements comply with regulations and requirements.

Provide advice and guidance to personnel of anticipated FAA/FCAA positions relative to specific certification issues and attend engineering and/or management meetings.

Maintain familiarity with ODA Procedures Manual, FAAPiper Partnership with Safety Plan (PSP), FAA Order 8100.15 and other applicable FAA/FCAA guidance orders and policy.

Alert appropriate personnel to changes affecting the Company by reviewing the Federal Register and monitoring regulatory change proposals, to assure the Company meets all regulatory requirements.

Collect and manage departmental metrics to support project deliverables and continued improvements.

Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requires a Bachelors degree in an engineering or technical discipline (or equivalent work experience), preferably in Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, and minimum of five years of aircraft certification experience. Pilot experience, airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanic, and/or understanding of flight crew duties and responsibilities are desired.

Working knowledge of 14 CFR 21 and 23 is necessary to perform the duties of this position.

General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, testing, approval, FAA certification, manufacturing, inspection and service.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to deal with personnel situations.
