Manager, Tooling  (Full Time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Lead the Tooling, Tool Design and CNC Programming organization by developing a robust program for development, maintenance and improvement of Piper's tooling. Lead process improvement in tool design and CNC programming. Promote teamwork within the department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, Implement and Maintain overall tooling management organization.
  • Optimize tool, tool design and CNC program control.
  • Ensure that Tool Design Standards are developed and maintained.
  • Develop and implement the tool recycle and maintenance process.
  • Create, direct, and promote process, procedure, and action plans.
  • Attend engineering and/or management meetings and provide necessary input and guidance.
  • Interface with vendors and Purchasing department in selection of tools and various materials.
  • Review project status with management as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include supervision, training and assisting employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering, and a minimum of 10 years tooling, tool design experience, with at least five years as supervisor in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Extensive knowledge of computers and programs (such as Microsoft office), understanding of document and data control as it relates to CNC programs and tool designs. Firm understanding of configuration management and control of tooling and related data, fundamentals of sheet metal layout and applications is required. Extensive knowledge of operation of various machines including CNC mills, grinders, saws, punch press, lathes, heat treat equipment, drill press, torches, welders, and all related hand tools and test equipment operation are required to perform the duties of this position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.
