Loan Officer, Petersburg WV  (Full Time)
Location: Petersburg, WV

Education requirements:            

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business-related field

    Experience or Skill requirements: 

  • Prior banking experience preferred

  • Basic mathematics skills including, but not limited to, algebra, statistics, and their applications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data


  • Meet with client or prospective client to obtain information for loan applications and to answer questions about the process

  • Collect financial information necessary to make a loan decision

  • Analyze applicant’s financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans 

  • Develop and maintain interest rate structure, with assistance of management or Holding Company Loan Committee, to be consistent with Summit’s policies and procedures and to be competitive with current market rate

  • Work with credit department to resolve any application concerns

  • Negotiate credit terms such as costs, loan repayment methods, and collateral specifications

  • Make final loan decision within authority guidelines.

  • Maintain working knowledge of loan systems; how to create and/or obtain loan documents through the loan system

  • Maintain loans in accordance with loan policy and/or regulations.

  • Remain knowledgeable and familiar with new types of loans and other financial services and products to best meet the client’s needs

  • Work with clients to identify their financial goals and to find ways of reaching those goals

  • Promote bank products and services, i.e. deposits, investment products, secondary market mortgages, trust services, etc.

  • Collect delinquent loan payments and work with Debt Management department on delinquent accounts as needed

  • Follow structured calling system as set by the supervisor based on expectations and/or goals. Develop new client prospects and business for the financial institution

  • Complete all required training by company deadlines

  • Other duties as assigned


The Loan Officer will report to their direct supervisor which varies, based on location. The Loan Officer will work with all lending staff including other Lenders, Loan Officer Assistants, Loan Processing, Post Closing, Loan Review, Credit Analysis, and Debt Management departments.  The Loan Officer may need to present loans to the Holding Company Loan Committee or Board of Directors as required based on Summit’s Loan Policy.
