House Counselors Needed!
Our House Counselor position starts at $19.21/hour and receives an additional $2.50/hour shift differential for any shifts worked Friday evening through Monday morning.

+ Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience working supporting adults with developmental disabilities required.
  • Prior supervisory experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
  • CNA experience preferred but not required.
  • Any certifications necessary for the job will be paid for and coordinated through Benedictine.


+ Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care services to group home residents.
  • Provide appropriate supervision in all areas.
  • Provide transportation for residents.
  • Assist residents with purchasing, budgeting, care of clothing and hygiene as needed.
  • Counsel residents as appropriate regarding relationships and family.
  • Counsel residents in identifying and resolving social and other problems.
  • Manage household accounts in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist residents with banking and money management and ensure accurate accounting and reporting of individual accounts.
  • Assist in the development of the Person-Centered Plan, write reports for plans and keep record of outcome information.
  • Administer medication and maintain accurate record keep of med administration.
  • Create monthly activities calendar and coordinate those activities and submit weekend plans on a weekly basis. 
  • Do meal planning and grocery shopping for the house based on the dietary needs of the people supported.
  • Complete documentation of food logs, daily logs, monthly recreational form, fire drills, financial reports, attendance reports and medication charts on time and thoroughly.
  • Complete daily documentation in Therap.
  • Ensure Benedictine and Adult Programs policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure that all house tasks, such as cleaning, are completed on a daily basis by staff and that a high standard of housekeeping is maintained at all times.

Job Summary: The House Counselor is a direct support professional assigned to oversee and direct residential services provided for clients residing in an adult Group Home. In addition to providing direct care services, the House Counselor is responsible for monitoring quality of care and services provided by other direct care staff assigned to the group home; ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed; maintaining a clean, orderly environment in the group home; completing and submitting all documentation required on a daily, weekly and monthly basis; communicating effectively and routinely with direct supervisor, parents, Program Coordinators, nursing staff and other stakeholders as needed.

Hours of work

  • Full time
  • Sunday - Thursday 4p-12m (Easton or Ridgely Group Home)
  • Sunday 8a - 8p and Monday - Thursday 4p-12m (Trappe Group Home)
  • Monday - Friday 6a-9a and 3p-10p (Henderson Group Home)
  • Friday 3p-12m, Saturday 6a-10p, and Sunday 6a-4p LIVE-IN POSITION (Annapolis Group Home)

Overtime expectations

  • Overtime is not required but is regularly available and much appreciated. Any employee can request extra hours, regardless of seniority

Work environment

  • Group home and community setting

Travel requirements

  • You must have a relatively clean driving record as transporting individuals may be required. We have Benedictine vehicles to use for transportation purposes. Use of your own vehicle is not required.

On-call responsibilities

  • Not required for this position.
