OAHU-BENEFITS & LEAVE SPECIALIST  (Regular Full Time)
Location: HDCC

The Benefits & Leave Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits, retirement programs, administering various types of leave and overseeing the Company's wellness initiatives.  This position also requires familiarity with defined contribution plans, annual audit processes, and wellness programs.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information. 
  • Assists with new-hire orientations. 
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data. 
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes. 
  • Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility. 
  • Enrolls employees with carriers and process life status changes. 
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries. 
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA. 
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities. 
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process. 
  • Administers the tuition reimbursement program. 
  • Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.
  • Assessing the health and wellness needs of the organization's employees through surveys, consultations, and health assessments.
  • Designing and implementing wellness programs that may include fitness challenges, health screenings, nutrition classes, mental health workshops, and stress management seminars.
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, fitness instructors, and other vendors to provide wellness services.
  • Promoting wellness programs to employees through various communication channels such as email, newsletters, intranet, or health fairs.
  • Scheduling and coordinating wellness events and activities.
  • Ensuring wellness programs comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including those related to workplace health and safety, privacy, and discrimination.
  • Developing incentives and rewards to encourage employee participation in wellness activities.
  • Reporting to VP of Human Resources on program progress and outcomes, using data to highlight benefits such as improved employee health, reduced healthcare costs, or increased productivity.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field, but experience and/or other training/certification may be substituted for the education 
  • Certificates: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), Professional in Human Resource (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR) certification preferred.
  • Five years' experience in HR and/or benefits administration. 
  • Familiarity with defined contribution plans and annual audit process preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office products, particularly Excel. 

Starting Salary: $80,000/yr.
