ACCOUNTING MANAGER
Office Hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is an exempt position.

Community Research Foundation is an $80 million, non-profit organization that continues to grow as a leader in providing mental health services throughout San Diego County. Located in the Mission Bay Park area, our Accounting department provides support to 34 programs and approximately 1,000 employees across San Diego County in all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, billing, AP/AR, payroll, financial analysis, and auditing.
Typical Duties of the Accounting Manager
The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Vice President of Accounting and will be responsible for:
Recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and motivating a team of seven
Planning, organizing, and managing daily accounting operations (accounts payable, cash receipts, provisions, and general ledger)
Ensuring functions are performed timely and accurately and in strict compliance with GAAP, regulatory bodies (County of San Diego, Federal OMB, HUD), company policies and procedures, and established internal controls
Ensuring current policies and procedures are compliant with funding agency audit/contract requirements and contributing to development of and revisions to policies and procedures as needed
Evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures to maximize company efficiencies, recommending changes when necessary and assisting in implementation of new processes
Safeguarding organizational assets, developing efficient business practices to process accounting transactions
Qualifications/Skills Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited college or university required; solid understanding of GAAP accounting principles; thorough knowledge of financial statements and general ledger
Six + years progressive accounting experience, including four years management experience leading a team of two or more, preferably in a non-profit setting
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures; strong organizational, written and verbal communication; flexibility in managing multiple deadlines and priorities
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including a proven ability to tactfully collaborate on challenging issues
Ability to work independently with solid problem solving and critical thinking skills; proven record of initiative and follow through
Dependable and reliable; team player with the ability to establish collaborative working relationships
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (V-Lookup, Pivot Tables); excellent 10-key skills; proficiency with word processing software, Outlook, Sage 100, or other accounting software
