Program/Location: Central Office (Central San Diego)

Payroll Systems Specialist - Central Office (Central San Diego)

Office Hours:  Monday – Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm but may require additional hours. This is a non-exempt position.

Established in 1980, CRF has consistently grown in scope and numbers of employees, and continues to develop innovative programs, including over 34 locations throughout San Diego.  Located in the Mission Bay Park area, our payroll department provides support to 34 programs across San Diego County, and processes payroll for 1,000 employees.

Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Payroll and Payroll Manager, the Payroll Systems Specialist will provide support for the different Payroll and Human Resources systems and applications, with specific support of Sage HRMS.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Payroll, IT and HR departments as needed to ensure integrity of the payroll data as it relates to new hires, terminations, transfer, and allocations.
  • Troubleshoot user requests or issues, resolving system and data problems.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, maintain error logs, resolve data, and interface errors.
  • Test system changes, load data and save transactions into the HRMS system.
  • Develop and/or maintain training materials for Timekeeping system.
  • Maintain and audit data in HR and Payroll databases.
  • Ensure proper configuration of all systems supported by HRMS to meet business needs.
  • Create and maintain system documentation and make recommendations for improvements to support a highly functioning HR and Payroll systems.
  • Support Payroll in implementations and roll-out activities related to the HRMS system.



  • Associates degree from accredited college or university or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of HR and payroll database design, structure, function and processes, and experience with database tools.
  • Minimum two years of hands-on experience with databases and custom report writing preferred.
  • Two years of advanced experience using MS Excel and/or MS Access.
  • Excellent research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work with confidential data in a professional manner. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • A high level of confidentiality and accuracy is essential for success in this position
  • Ability to pass criminal/background clearance
