Mental Health Counselor - CG (4210)  (Regular Full-Time, Hourly)
Program/Location: IMPACT (Linda Vista)

Mental Health Counselor / PSR Specialist – Mental Health Services for Assertive Community Treatment Program

Hours: 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm with occasional evening and Saturday shifts. This position will be managing the CommonGround decision-making web-based program, including organizing, convening, and facilitating consumer use of CommonGround as well as providing direct services to clients.

Program Overview:

Located in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego, CA, the Intensive Mobile Psychosocial Assertive Community Treatment (IMPACT) program provides intensive, community-based case management services for homeless adults throughout San Diego County. We deliver fully-integrated services to clients diagnosed with a serious mental illness, as well as individuals with co-occurring, mental health, and substance disorders.

Our program utilizes the evidence-based practice of Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) to support our clients in the higher level of community care and to assist them in reaching their goals and living a life that is not dominated by mental illness. Our team is a model of care, providing treatment, rehabilitation, and case management supports.

Typical Duties of the PSR Specialist

CommonGround (CG) is a set of strengths-based, person-centered tools that aim to invite clients to take an active role on their treatment team by amplifying client voices and increasing collaboration between care providers and recipients. As an integral member of the IMPACT Program, this position collaborates one-on-one with clients to delineate treatment preferences in the context of the client’s personal vision of recovery.

This position supports clients by helping them develop wellness strategies, weigh the pros and cons of challenging treatment decisions, and articulate their unique needs and goals to providers. CommonGround computer software is used as a tool to provide information, tools and support, and is the foundation to the collaborative work between the client and the PSR Specialist.

  • Serves as the lead for managing the CG program, including organizing, convening, and facilitating consumer use of CommonGround. 
  • Provides Case Management and conducts individual and group counseling sessions
  • Provides training and technical assistance to program employees
  • Utilizes CG and other interventions designed to assist consumer in meeting recovery goals

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in a mental health-related field such as Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, with a minimum of 4 years of experience working with a mental health population, especially with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders is strongly preferred, OR
  • Associate's degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience working with a mental health population, especially with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of County Health and Human Services requirements including documentation is preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically Word and Excel
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is essential
  • A valid California driver's license in good standing and eligibility to be an approved CRF driver is required to fulfill the essential functions of this position. In addition, proof of insurance is required prior to driving personal vehicles on company business.
  • Ability to pass criminal/background clearance
