Back to Category List Available Positions > Job Description Payroll Accountant (Full Time) Position Overview The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for analyzing, preparing, and inputting data. Will processes and reconcile insurance, tax, and other payroll related expenses. Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and relevant grant requirements. Will use an automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Essential Duties: Maintain accurate records and supporting materials for payroll and related activities. Must maintain current knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws and grant regulations as applicable to payroll functions. Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provides General Ledger support. Ensures accuracy of data within payroll system of payroll system process. Organize and track all payroll related transactions, including coding timesheets to appropriate fund; Personal Time Off (PTO) accruals and changes, insurance, and tax transactions. Verify and process employee and student timesheets, wage computation, work charts and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies. Update pension accrued or paid for individuals monthly to ensure accuracy of balances. Update vacation, compensation time, sick leave taken or accrued, monthly and year to date. Process checks requests, garnishments and tax payments and other deductions; ensuring all appropriate approvals have been received. Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, franchisees, and others in a courteous and professional manner. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions. Compute wages and deductions and enter data into computers. Record employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records. Process and issue employee and participant paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions. Keep track of leave time, such as vacation, personal, and sick leave, for employees. Compile employee time, production, and payroll data from time sheets and other records and convert to payroll system coding for accurate input into payroll system. Confirm receipt and proper completion off timecards each pay period. Issue and record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive pay adjustments. Ensure all payroll related activities and transactions are supported by proper documentation per regulatory requirement. May fill in for other members of Fiscal Department as needed to provide support during times of peak workload or temporary absences. Perform accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or clerical tasks as assigned. Other duties as assigned.
