The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The purpose of the Conference is to promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind.  The bishops themselves constitute the membership of the Conference and are served by a staff of approximately 315 lay people, priests, deacons, and religious, located at the Conference headquarters in Washington, DC, with branch offices in Miami, FL and Rome.

The Conference is organized as a corporation in the District of Columbia. Its purposes under civil law are: "To unify, coordinate, encourage, promote and carry on Catholic activities in the United States; to organize and conduct religious, charitable and social welfare work at home and abroad; to aid in education; to care for immigrants; and generally to enter into and promote by education, publication and direction the objects of its being."

Job Description

Unpaid Intern Church in Latin America  (Volunteer-Unpaid)

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is looking for an Intern to support the Office of National Collections/Church in Latin America. The Intern will be involved in various activities such as researching Latin American countries and U.S. dioceses that have relationships with Latin American parishes or dioceses, analyzing grant proposals, and providing logistical support for meetings and subcommittee members. The Intern will work under the director of Church in Latin America and the grants specialist and may assist the Office of National Collections Executive Director as needed.

 

The Internship is open to undergraduate students in their 2nd year or beyond. The position is part-time, up to 16 hours per week, two days each week. The ideal candidate should pursue a degree in International Relations, Latin American Studies, Theology, International Development, or other related fields.

 

The Intern should know Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and be familiar with the Catholic Church and Catholic social teachings. Writing and research skills are preferred, and database experience is a plus. Knowledge of developing countries is required, and experience working within the structures of the Catholic Church is a must.

 

The Intern should be fluent in Spanish as it is a mandatory requirement. Having experience traveling throughout developing countries is helpful.
