Food Service - Prep Cook FT  (Full Time)
Location: Olathe, KS

Full-time Kitchen position

Starting pay rate: $18.50

Schedule: Wednesday through Saturday with varying working hours between 7:00 am to 6:30 pm.

This position has responsibility for food preparation and meal-service to residential clients on campus in a full kitchen/cafeteria environment, maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining areas & adhering to a food service menu and schedule. This position would also be responsible for State required recordkeeping and documentation. Majority of meals and snacks are pre-made and require only mixing, baking, heating, steaming, etc. This is often a shared-responsibility position, although also requires some independent work responsibilities, time and tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position.These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Prepare food according to menus and food safety standards and serve residential youth daily.May also prepare food to support residential activities.

  • Clean and maintain the hygiene and cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas.

  • Participate in inventory management and storage of food products.

  • Complete and maintain all paperwork related to food production and service as assigned.

  • Professionally interact with youth, KidsTLC staff, food service distributors, and various Kansas State department management.

  • Attend classes, in-services and workshops voluntarily or as assigned by the Food Service Manager including food safety, CRP/First Aid training, etc.Successful completion of the Kansas State Department of Educations (KSDEs) food safety training is a requirement within six months of employment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, per state requirement related to working with youth
  • 1-2 year experience in residential, institutional or commercial food service or the equivalent experience.
  • Preferred knowledge or experience with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) policies and procedures preferred (is this realistic to be included
  • The employee must be able to read and follow recipes, be able to measure and read measuring devices, be able to use various kitchen equipment appropriately and safely, and be able to adhere to a planned menu and food service schedule
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with all internal and external contacts.
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Sound decision making and judgement skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work with changing priorities, as necessary
  • Basic computer skills

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

COGNITIVE DEMANDS

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTERSKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of industry specific software, industry specific systems and other web-based software programs and Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel.
