Available Positions > Job Description Telecommunicator I (State-Certified) (Full Time) POSITION: Telecommunicator I (State-Certified) Police Department - Emergency Communications Full-time, 10 and 12 hour shifts
POSITION RANGE: $25.49-29.22/hour
POSITION OVERVIEW & REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The Telecommunicator processes all emergency calls, routine calls for service, and support calls by acquiring information from citizens and other public entities requesting public safety services or assistance. Applicants must have successfully completed the State Telecommunicator Certification class offered by DSET, an approved EMD program, and the AT&T 911 equipment training and possess current certification with the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications. The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a recognized G.E.D. and three (3) years of administrative support or public customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Ability to type and perform data entry on computer terminal and extract and relay information to and from callers under extreme emotional pressure. Ability to understand and clearly speak the English language. Ability to read maps. Ability to spell, alphabetize, and catalogue. Ability to perform multiple tasks and function under extreme stress.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) on the program currently used in the Town of Groton within one (1) year from date of hire. Failure to obtain the required certifications within the time limits established above will result in termination.
