ENTRY SALARY:

Dependent on Qualifications

POSITION RANGE:

$96,500 - $135,100/annum (Revised under new classification & compensation plan)

The Town of Groton, Connecticut is looking for an experienced financial professional to assist with the administration and management of the Accounting, Assessment, Purchasing and Tax Collection divisions within the Finance Department. This is a non-union, exempt, full-time position. The Deputy Finance Director will be responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Deputy Finance Director is responsible for the Accounting, Assessment, Purchasing and Tax collection divisions within the Department of Finance; performs administrative and supervisory work in these functional areas. The Deputy Finance Director is required to exercise considerable independent judgement in assisting with the administration and management of the department and is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/she direction and control. Proposes and coordinates the implementation of new financial policies and procedures. May assume responsibility for other department functions or special projects as assigned by the Director. Serves as the Director of Finance and/or Treasurer/Accounting Manager in their absence. Works on special projects as assigned. Performs related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The skills and knowledge required would generally be acquired with a Bachelors Degree in finance and/or Accounting and six (6) years experience in responsible financial/accounting work including a minimum of four (4) years experience in a supervisory position or a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or some closely related field with a concentration in Finance and/or Accounting and four (4) years experience in financial accounting work including a minimum of three (3) years experience in a supervisory position. Familiarity with public accounting and assessment procedures preferred. Strong computer software skills required; must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Criminal background, drug testing, and driving record checks required prior to employment.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Valid Motor Vehicle Operators License.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

Designation as Certified Public Accountant.
