Planner II-Neighborhood and Community Planning (Full Time)
The Town of Groton Connecticut is looking for a dynamic, industrious, and highly motivated person to fill the role of Planner II in our Economic and Community Development division. With the expansion and growth of General Dynamics/Electric Boat in Groton, numerous new development and redevelopment opportunities exist. The individual in this position will be responsible for, and take part in, exciting projects in the department. This will include marketing vacant and underutilized properties for private redevelopment, managing the Town’s very successful community development block grant program which has received over $5,000,000 in grants over the past seven (7) years, managing the town’s housing rehabilitation program, marketing the Town of Groton and playing a key role in the Economic and Community Development division.
The Economic and Community Development division is part of the Office of Planning and Development Services. The individual in this position will work with a highly skilled team of economic developers, planners, building inspectors, technical and administrative staff. Groton is an economic driver of southeastern Connecticut and our Economic and Community Development division has been recognized for its groundbreaking work. The skills and knowledge required would usually be acquired with a Master's Degree in Planning or a closely related field, with a minimum of four years experience in planning, preferably with experience in neighborhood and community development. Ability to make oral and written presentations. Sound computer skills, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management with some familiarity with planning related computer applications. Knowledge of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and regulations preferred. Valid motor vehicle operator's license. Certification as a Planner by the American Institute of Certified Planners desirable. Full-time, 40 hours/week, starting salary: $74,370, position range: $74,370-$85,427. Position open until filled.
