Who We Are
Matanuska Electric Association, Inc., is Alaska’s oldest existing and second-largest electric cooperative, owned and operated by its 56,000+ members. MEA’s service area covers more than 4,700 miles of power lines in Southcentral Alaska.
MEA is governed by bylaws and articles of incorporation that are voted on and approved by the membership. Elections are held each spring as part of the annual meeting process; members of the seven-seat Board of Directors are elected then.

Living in the Valley
MEA is primarily located in the Matanuska Valley in Southcentral Alaska about thirty-five miles north of Anchorage, Alaska. Matanuska Valley includes the Matanuska, Knik, and Susitna Rivers. It is the fastest growing region in Alaska and includes Wasilla, Palmer, Big Lake, Houston, Willow, Sutton, Talkeetna. MEA’s service area also includes Eagle River. The Matanuska Valley is primarily the land of the Dena'ina and Ahtna Athabaskan people.[5]
