Registered Nurse - Outpatient Apheresis (Full-Time) - Kansas City, MO

Members of the Community Blood Center Outpatient Apheresis team specialize in plasma exchange.  This is the separation and removal of plasma from the blood in order to remove harmful substances circulating in the plasma. The red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets are returned to the patient, along with a prescribed replacement fluid. Simply stated, "old plasma" is removed and is replaced by "new plasma". Alternatively, abnormal red cells, platelets or white cells may be removed or exchanged.  We also work with the Bone Marrow Transplant Team at Children’s Mercy Hospitals & Clinics.

 

Under the supervision of the Outpatient Supervisor, performs therapeutic apheresis procedures in the hospital setting. Travel is required between hospitals in the local area.  RN will be working with adult and pediatric patients, performing five separate therapeutic apheresis procedures using the Cobe Spectra and Spectra Optia.  Some procedures within hospital critical care units.

Hours: Monday - Friday (8 hour shifts ) OR Thursday - Sunday (10 hour shifts)

Essential Functions:

  • Performs therapeutic Apheresis procedures on adult and pediatric patients.
  • Perform phlebotomy for venous/fistula access.
  • Communicate on daily basis with a diverse multi-disciplinary team.
  • Utilize hematology knowledge in blood product reactions, circulatory fluid shift.
  • Performs quality control on Apheresis instruments and related equipment

Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with minimum of BSN or ADN.
  • Current nursing license in Missouri & Kansas.
  • Requires Missouri Class E or Kansas Class C valid driver’s license with excellent driving history.
  • 2 to 4 years acute hospital experience required.
  • Critical Care and Dialysis experience beneficial.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Nursing.
  • Critical thinking skills to assess high risk patient situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and work autonomously.
  • Basic hematology knowledge.
  • Phlebotomy.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Superior verbal communications skill for communicating with staff, patients, physicians and staff of outside facilities.

Phlebotomist (Donor Care Tech I) - Mobile Units (Full-Time) - Kansas City, MO

Work Schedule Varies

 

Under the supervision of the Site Manager/Manager of Mobile Operations and the Collection Supervisor, perform donor suitability evaluations and blood collection procedures.  This critical position is our front-line people responsible for drawing blood products from donors.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure safety of the donor and safety, purity and potency of the blood collected.
  • Assist in the set up and break down of mobile site equipment before and after the mobile (if applicable).
  • Perform various regulated functions related to the care of the blood after collections, including storage and transportation.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent - Must provide a copy of the diploma or GED certification.
  • Medical Assistant degree preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Valid MO Class E Driver's License or KS Class C Driver's License with excellent driving history.
  • WORK HOURS AND DAYS VARY SO MUST BE VERY FLEXIBLE.

Staff Tech (Immunohematology Lab) (Full-Time) - Kansas City, MO

Perform task associated with red cell and platelet antibody detection and identification. Identify, type and provide specially typed red cell units. Provide consultation/reference services to clients. Support organizational quality efforts by accepting responsibility for: Reporting any problems relating to the product, process and quality system. Participation in implementation of solutions to problems

Site Supply Coordiantor (Full-Time) - Kansas City, MO

Under supervision of the Purchasing Manager, assumes responsibility for the delivery of supplies to all CBC satellite sites.  Assists with day-to-day operations of Purchasing department. Performs routine maintenance in the CBC stockroom, assists with reconciliation of stock inventory and assists with biannual stock inventory.  Responsible for reporting problems and safety hazards to Purchasing Director/designee. Supports organizational quality efforts by accepting responsibility for reporting any problems relating to product, process, and quality system, and participating in the implementation of solutions to problems.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Receives daily requisitions from various satellite sites and checks for possible problems.
  • Delivers requisitioned stock, non-stock, and all essential materials (mail, etc) to satellite sites.
  • Performs record-keeping functions associated with product distribution.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid state operators/chauffeurs’ license from Missouri or Kansas.
  • Operates CBC vehicles, maintains a good driving record and observes all driving safety rules and regulations.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent - Must provide a copy of the diploma or GED certification.
  • Prefer one year of experience in shipping and/or delivery.
  • Valid MO Class E Driver's License or KS Class C Driver's License with excellent driving history.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with shipping companies, vendors and other CBC staff.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of individuals.
  • Ability to solve problems and work independently.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
